TN Govt Forms Cashew Board with ₹10 Crore Allocation

The Tamil Nadu government has constituted the Tamil Nadu Cashew Board with Agriculture Minister M. R. K. Panneerselvam as Chairperson and its headquarters in Cuddalore. Announced in the 2025–26 Agriculture Budget with an allocation of ₹10 crore, the board aims to increase cashew cultivation and production, reduce dependence on raw cashew imports from Africa, and achieve self-sufficiency. Its functions include promoting high-yield varieties, providing technical support on pest management and harvesting, offering training to farmers, establishing processing units, improving storage and export opportunities, and forming worker groups for welfare schemes. As per the government order, the Vice-Chairperson will be nominated by the state, while the Agriculture Production Commissioner and Secretary will serve as Member-Secretary. Other members include officials from the Horticulture Department, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Tamil Nadu Apex Cooperative Marketing Federation, and two farmers representing cashew-growing districts.
