Vietnam Eyes 2.7% Growth in Cashew Exports – Targeting $4.5B

Vietnam has set an ambitious target to export cashews worth $4.5 billion in 2025, representing a 2.7% increase compared to 2024, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment. To achieve this, the sector needs to generate about $2.2 billion in export revenue in the second half of the year.

Key trends and strategies supporting this target:

  • Value-Added Processing: Vietnam is placing a stronger focus on enhancing value through advanced processing, which has contributed to higher export prices. In the first half of 2025, export value rose 20.4% year-on-year despite a 2.7% drop in export volume, showing the industry’s shift toward higher-value products.

  • Diversification of Export Markets: Facing uncertainty from a proposed 20% U.S. tariff, Vietnam is actively expanding its reach into emerging markets such as the UAE and Saudi Arabia. This diversification aims to mitigate risk and sustain growth should U.S. demand weaken due to trade barriers.

  • European Union Growth: The EU has become Vietnam’s third-largest cashew market, with consistent growth and ongoing potential for further expansion.

  • Global Cashew Hub: Vietnam continues to cement its position as the world’s leading cashew processing and exporting hub, with a record 730,000 tonnes exported in 2024 worth $4.37 billion—a 20.2% increase from the previous year.
